Before going live with the comic I wanted to have several in the can to be sure I could really commit to a weekly schedule. Thus some of the topical humor is a bit out of date. Cory and I saw Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel in the space of a few days and we both enjoyed them. But for sure Cory is an Iron Man guy. Don’t get me wrong, as they say I was into Iron Man before he was cool. I was not big into comic books as a kid so my best bud in college got to educate me. My three favorites from that time were Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, and Iron Man Armor Wars. So I get it, Iron Man is cool. But it’s Superman!

DC in films is a real mess especially next to Marvel. They don’t even get credit for the amazing Nolan Batman films as those are clearly in their own world with no thought to the larger DC universe. I was hoping Man of Steel would start to right the ship and I think its a very good foundation. It’s by far the most science-fictional Superman film, which I very much appreciate. And unlike Superman Returns, which was essentially a remake of the Donner films, Man of Steel focused on a rarely seen time period, the pre-Metropolis adult Clark Kent. I certainly understand some of the polarization in the fan community but I’m hopeful that the sequel will take some of that into account.
On an artistic note, this is the comic where I first believed I could do this for real. I had visualized the shots that I wanted for the panels and when I was done it came out pretty much like I wanted. I still can’t get over it. When you believe all your life that you can’t draw and then something comes out the way you want it to, it’s an incredible feeling.
More to come!
